Give your rootzone a fast boost of beneficial biology with Ecothrive Biosys, a highly concentrated microbial treatment designed to introduce a diverse population of beneficial microorganisms directly into your growing medium.
Instead of spending hours preparing and brewing microbial teas, Biosys provides a quick and convenient alternative. Simply mix the required amount with suitable water and apply it to your plants.
The formula combines multiple groups of beneficial microorganisms with enzymes, amino acids, proteins, humic substances, carbohydrates, yeasts and seaweed extract, creating much more than a basic microbial inoculant.
Whether you’re starting seeds, establishing cuttings, transplanting, maintaining mature plants or refreshing the biology of an existing rootzone, Biosys provides an easy way to introduce beneficial microbial life when it’s needed.
Biosys was developed by Ecothrive as an all-in-one microbial product capable of introducing several different types of beneficial microorganisms in a single application.
The formula contains multiple strains and groups of beneficial biology, including:
These are combined with complementary ingredients intended to support biological activity and create a healthy environment around the roots.
Rather than buying several separate microbial products or preparing your own microbial brew, Biosys brings everything together in one concentrated powder.
A biologically active rootzone can play an important role in how effectively plants access the resources around them.
Once introduced into a suitable environment, the microorganisms in Biosys interact with the growing medium, roots and organic material present within the rootzone.
This can help with nutrient cycling, organic matter breakdown and nutrient availability, while supporting a diverse and balanced rhizosphere.
Ecothrive hasn’t stopped at adding beneficial microorganisms.
Biosys also contains a complementary blend of:
Enzymes, amino acids, proteins, humic acids, carbohydrates, yeasts and seaweed extract.
These additional components work alongside the microbial ingredients, creating a comprehensive rootzone treatment in a simple powdered format.
One of the biggest advantages of Biosys is its simplicity.
Traditional microbial teas can involve brewing, aerating and waiting before they’re ready to use. Biosys is designed to make introducing beneficial biology considerably easier.
Add to water → Mix thoroughly → Apply
There’s no lengthy brewing process required.
This makes it particularly useful for growers who want the benefits of a diverse microbial product without adding another complicated process to their feeding routine.
Beneficial microorganisms need the right environment to perform effectively.
Chlorine and chloramine found in some tap water can negatively affect microbial life, so water should be appropriately treated before mixing Biosys.
Water can be left standing where appropriate for chlorine, although this should not be relied upon to remove chloramine. A suitable water conditioner such as Ecothrive Neutralise can be used where chlorine or chloramine is present.
It’s also recommended to avoid applying Biosys alongside excessively strong nutrient solutions.
As a general guide, avoid using Biosys with nutrient solutions above EC 1.5, plus the starting EC of your water.
Application rates depend on what you’re using Biosys for.
Dosage: 1g per litre of water
Prepare the Biosys solution and soak your rooting plugs for approximately 15 minutes.
After soaking, gently remove excess liquid from the plugs before continuing with your normal propagation process.
This introduces beneficial microorganisms into the root environment right from the beginning.
Dosage: 1g per litre of water
After moving your plants into larger containers, mix Biosys with water and apply it to the freshly transplanted plants.
This helps introduce beneficial biology into the new growing medium surrounding the developing roots.
Dosage: 0.5g per litre of water
Apply approximately once every 1–2 weeks.
Biosys can be used with plain water. If applying it alongside your normal nutrients, reduce the nutrient solution to approximately half strength.
Dosage: 0.25g per litre
Biosys can also be used in recirculating systems, but the concentration should be reduced.
Keep the nutrient solution well aerated and apply Biosys approximately once every 1–2 weeks.
Dosage: 0.5g per litre of plain water
Biosys can be used as part of a recovery programme when plants have experienced environmental or transplant stress.
Apply at approximately five-day intervals where required.
Biosys can also be introduced during a regular plain-water irrigation.
Use:
0.5g per litre for standard systems
0.25g per litre for recirculating systems
| Application | Dosage | Suggested Use |
|---|---|---|
| Seeds & Cuttings | 1g/L | Soak rooting plugs for around 15 minutes |
| Potting On | 1g/L | Water in after transplanting |
| Established Plants | 0.5g/L | Apply every 1–2 weeks |
| Recirculating Systems | 0.25g/L | Apply every 1–2 weeks with good aeration |
| Plant Stress | 0.5g/L | Apply with plain water at approximately 5-day intervals |
| Plain-Water Irrigation / Flush | 0.5g/L | Add to plain water |
| Recirculating Flush | 0.25g/L | Use at the reduced recirculating-system rate |
Biosys isn’t restricted to living soil.
It can be incorporated into a variety of growing methods, including:
Soil • Living Soil • Coco • Hydroponics • Recirculating Systems
The application rate should be adjusted according to the growing method, particularly when using recirculating hydroponic systems.
Ecothrive Biosys is available in three pack sizes:
10g – ideal for trying Biosys or treating smaller setups
40g – a practical size for regular use
250g – better suited to larger gardens and frequent applications
Because Biosys is highly concentrated, relatively small quantities are required per litre of water.
For growers building a biologically active rootzone, Ecothrive Biosys and Ecothrive Charge can complement one another particularly well.
While Biosys introduces a concentrated population of beneficial microorganisms, Charge is an organic soil amendment based around insect frass that can be incorporated into the growing medium.
They perform different jobs but can form part of the same biologically focused growing approach.
Biosys introduces a concentrated and diverse population of beneficial microorganisms into the rootzone, alongside enzymes, amino acids, humic substances, carbohydrates and other complementary ingredients.
No. That’s one of its biggest advantages.
Biosys is designed to be mixed with water and used without brewing, making it a convenient alternative to preparing microbial teas.
Yes. Biosys can be used with conventional soil and living-soil growing systems.
Yes. It’s suitable for coco-based growing systems as well as soil and hydroponics.
Yes. It can be used hydroponically, including in recirculating systems. For recirculating systems, reduce the application rate to 0.25g per litre and maintain good aeration.
For established plants, use approximately 0.5g per litre every 1–2 weeks.
Yes. Transplanting is an ideal time to introduce Biosys. Use 1g per litre and water the solution into the newly transplanted growing medium.
Yes, but avoid excessively strong nutrient solutions. When using Biosys alongside nutrients on established plants, reduce the normal feed to approximately half strength.
You should take care if your tap water contains chlorine or chloramine, as disinfectants can negatively affect the microorganisms you’re trying to introduce.
Use appropriately treated water before adding Biosys.
Ecothrive Biosys is available in 10g, 40g and 250g packs, allowing you to choose a size appropriate for your growing system and frequency of use.
