Ecothrive Soil Food – Organic Nutrition for Living Soil
Keep your living soil productive from planting right through to reuse with the Ecothrive Soil Food range.
Rather than relying on bottled synthetic nutrients, Soil Food uses carefully selected organic dry amendments to provide nutrition while supporting the biological processes taking place within the soil.
The range is split into three purpose-made formulas: Grow for vegetative development, Bloom for the flowering stage, and Re-Gen for restoring used soil between crops.
Application couldn’t be much simpler. Measure the required amount, apply it as a top dress, lightly work it into the surface and water. There are no nutrient tanks to mix and no complicated feeding schedule to follow.
Three Formulas. One Complete Soil Feeding System.
Soil Food Grow – Build a Strong Foundation
Ecothrive Soil Food Grow is formulated for the vegetative and transitional stages, when plants require a dependable supply of nitrogen alongside a broad range of supporting nutrients.
A key component is soy amino hydrolysate, providing amine nitrogen and amino acids in a readily available form. This is combined with organic and mineral ingredients designed to provide both immediate and longer-lasting nutrition.
The formula also contains mealworm frass, micronised rock phosphate, potassium sulphate and gypsum, creating a balanced dry amendment that feeds the plant while supporting the living soil around its roots.
The aim is steady, controlled nutrition rather than overwhelming the soil with excessive nitrogen.
As plants move away from vegetative development and into flowering, Soil Food Bloom takes over.

Soil Food Bloom – Nutrition for the Flowering Stage
Once flowering begins, nutritional requirements change. Ecothrive Soil Food Bloom has been formulated specifically for this stage, reducing nitrogen while increasing the availability of phosphorus and potassium.
The blend contains potassium lignosulphonate alongside fulvic acids, helping make important elements available within the soil.
Additional ingredients including mealworm frass, gypsum, kieserite and micronised rock phosphate provide a broad mineral profile designed to maintain nutrition as flowering progresses.
Rather than continuing to push vegetative growth with high nitrogen levels, Bloom shifts the nutritional balance towards the requirements of the generative stage.

Soil Food Re-Gen – Don’t Throw Away Good Soil
One of the biggest advantages of a living-soil system is the ability to reuse and maintain the growing medium rather than replacing it after every crop.
That’s where Ecothrive Soil Food Re-Gen comes in.
Designed for use after harvest, Re-Gen replaces nutrients that have been removed during the previous growing cycle and prepares the soil for planting again.
Its formula includes bone meal, mealworm frass and micronised rock phosphate, together with olivine, which provides a slower source of magnesium and silicon.
Instead of starting again with fresh soil each time, Re-Gen gives growers a straightforward way to maintain and recharge an established living-soil system between cycles.
Soil Food Re-Gen Analysis
- Nitrogen (N): 3.5%
- Phosphorus (P₂O₅): 5.5% – equivalent to 2.5% P
- Potassium (K₂O): 3.5% – equivalent to 3% K
- Calcium: 10%
- Magnesium: 1%
- Sulphur: 4%

How to Apply Ecothrive Soil Food
The general application rate for Soil Food is:
1–2g per litre of soil
Calculate the amount required using the volume of soil contained within approximately the top 15cm of your pot or bed.
Spread the measured Soil Food evenly across the soil surface, then gently work it into the upper 2–4cm of soil.
Water thoroughly after application.
Remember that container size can influence how quickly nutrition is used. Smaller pots generally have fewer nutrient reserves than larger containers or beds, so feeding should always be adjusted according to the condition of the plants and the growing environment.
When Should I Apply Each Formula?
Soil Food Grow
For 40–60 litre containers, apply Soil Food Grow during the later vegetative or early transition period, approximately 3–4 weeks after planting.
The exact timing should be adjusted according to plant development and the condition of the soil.
Soil Food Bloom
For 40–60 litre containers, apply Soil Food Bloom during the early generative stage once flowers have begun forming.
Some varieties may benefit from another application approximately 2–3 weeks later.
Avoid applying further top dresses during approximately the final 4–5 weeks before harvest.
Soil Food Re-Gen
After harvesting, blend Soil Food Re-Gen into the used soil to replace depleted nutrition and prepare the growing medium for another planting cycle.
Unlike Grow and Bloom, Re-Gen is primarily intended for between-cycle soil maintenance rather than routine feeding of an actively growing crop.
Top Dressing Made Simple
One of the main advantages of Soil Food is that there’s no need to prepare a nutrient solution every time plants require feeding.
Measure → Top Dress → Lightly Work Into Soil → Water
Once applied, moisture and biological activity within the soil help make the nutrition available over time.
This makes Soil Food particularly useful for growers who want to keep their living-soil routine simple while still having separate nutrition for the major stages of the growing cycle.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between Soil Food Grow, Bloom and Re-Gen?
They’re designed for three different jobs.
Grow provides nutrition suited to vegetative development and transition. Bloom changes the nutrient profile for the flowering stage, with less nitrogen and increased phosphorus and potassium. Re-Gen is used after harvest to replenish previously used soil before the next crop.
How much Soil Food should I use?
The general recommendation is 1–2g per litre of soil, calculated according to the volume of soil within the upper approximately 15cm of the pot or bed.
Do I mix Soil Food with water?
Soil Food is designed as a dry amendment.
Apply it to the soil surface, gently work it into the top 2–4cm and then water the growing medium.
Can Soil Food be used in large living-soil beds?
Yes. The range can be used with both containers and living-soil beds. Calculate the application according to the relevant volume of soil in the upper section of the growing medium.
When should I change from Grow to Bloom?
Grow is intended for the vegetative and early transition stages. Once the plant moves into its generative stage and flowers begin developing, change to Soil Food Bloom.
What is Soil Food Re-Gen for?
Re-Gen is designed to replenish previously used living soil after harvest. It replaces depleted nutrients and helps prepare the growing medium for another planting cycle.
Do I need to replace my soil after every crop?
One of the purposes of a properly maintained living-soil system is to allow the growing medium to be reused. Soil Food Re-Gen is specifically designed to help restore nutrition between cycles rather than automatically discarding established soil after each harvest.
